The Golf Course

Varadero Golf Club

This is an 18-hole, 6269 metre Par 72 Golf Course. There are 5 Par 5s, 5 Par 3s, and the remaining 8 Holes are Par 4. It is suitable for all levels of players with varying tee positions and is constructed with three types of turf – Greens – Paspalum, Tees – Bermuda 328, Fairways – Bermuda 41.

It combines three styles of golf architecture: Classic Design, Challenging Design and Links Design.

Classic Design features broad fsirways bordered by trees with wide and scarcely protected greens.

Challenging or Target Golf Design features narrow fairways and heavily protected greens surrounded by sand traps and lakes. The Varadero Golf Course has several salt water lakes that connect directly with the sea, a feature that makes it almost unique worldwide.

Links Design features holes located alongside the sea following the shoreline, introducing the ocean as another obstacle in the game.

Due to its configuration, the course is divided into two distinct areas. A first round from holes one to nine, that can be considered slightly easier, and a second round, from holes 10 to 18, where holes 11, 15. 16. 17 and 18 stand out for their individual complexity. This allows golf players to combine all the technical elements of the game with the beauty, peacefulness and quiet of the surroundings.

The Xanadu Mansion is the Hotel and Club House of the Varadero Golf Club. It was constructed in the 1930s and provides the perfect place to relax after a round of golf. The Xanadu Restaurant serves French & International cuisine but for lighter dining there is the 19 Hoyo (19th hole) snack bar right next to the course. The Casa Blanca Panoramic Bar is located on the top floor of the Xanadú Mansion, with stunning views of the sea, the golf course, and the beach of Varadero. It is the perfect spot to celebrate a great round or drown your sorrows with the wide selection of aperitives, spirits, beers, wines, and cocktails.

Your Destination

Varadero, covering Cuba’s narrow Hicacos Peninsula, is a popular beach resort town. Along its 20km of Atlantic Ocean coastline is a string of all-inclusive hotel and spa complexes along with the only 18 hole golf course in Cuba. Near the peninsula’s eastern tip is Reserva Ecológica Varahicacos, a preserve with trails and an ancient burial cave. Parque Josone is a park with a pond and gardens.

It is Cuba’s top beach destination with powder soft sands lapped by waters of the Kawama Channel. Resort hotels teem along the shore that U.S. celebrities and gangsters, including Capone, discovered in the 1920s. Clubs and bars provide all manner of entertainment and drinks to enjoy after long days baking on the beach, golfing, diving or deep sea fishing. You can rent a scooter or hop aboard an open-air tourist train or bus to see more of this stunning spot. Caves, keys and virgin forest add to the area’s appeal.

Your Flights

Flight from Gatwick are one stop and land at Cuba’s main airport, José Martí International Airport,which  located 20 km southwest of the centre of Havana. Transfers to and from Varadero are included. If you are taking the Havana extension you  will be transferred from your hotel to this airport from the City.

Flights from Manchester fly directly into Juan Gualberto Gómez Airport, formerly known as Varadero Airport which is approximately 30 minutes drive from your hotel . If you are taking the Havana extension you  will be transferred back to this airport from the City.

Golf Clubs

The transport of your golf clubs is not included in the holiday price but we may be able to arrange for this to be pre-paid before departure. Otherwise you can arrange this when checking in for your flight. However, Varadero Golf Club has clubs for hire and you may find this the better, and cheaper, option.
